Lets go on A Roman Holiday with NARS…………Velvet Matte Lip Pencil
Hows it going? Hope your all staying well. A new NARS counter arrived in Liverpool Harvey Nichols Beauty Bazaar, last November. Check here for details; and I quite like NARS cosmetics so, i was excited when i heard about their imminent arrival. Before this, i had to rely on the website to buy beauty items and i don’t usually purchase well with online makeup, i generally need to swatch it for myself first, and colours always look different online.
NARS has only been in Liverpool for 3 months and i have already purchased six products. I am staying away at the moment, so i save some money haha.
Recently; however, i tried out the velvet matte lip pencils because i have never owned one of these in any makeup brand and thought they were quite quirky. I like quirky! My intention was to purchase the Dolce Vita one to go with the lipstick i have in the same name, until i spotted Roman Holiday.
The sales adviser tried to sell me the Roman Holiday lipstick as well but i wasn’t fond of it. The lip pencil was gorgeous though. A really lovely shade of pastel pink.
The pencil style is similar to the original chubby stick by Clinique. It is fat and designed to be used all over the lip rather than as a lip liner. Although it can function as a lip liner to. Its so easy to apply and it goes on quite sheer. Before i forget to mention it, you need to purchase the fat sharpener to keep them sharpened.
When i applied it, it didn’t look too bad on my lips. It was just slightly deeper in shade than a nude pink with a lilac undertone. It felt slightly powdery and quite drying though, so i applied a couple of different types of lip glosses to enhance it. I know this is defeating the object a bit but i did feel an improvement was made and i couldn’t wear this one without a gloss over it.
I tried the lip pencil first with one of my staple lip glossmers by Chanel in 104, Astral. This is a pale pink with golden pink shimmer and it worked very well with this lip pencil, being of the same type of shade. (Pictured left)
In fact, this looked gorgeous with Roman Holiday.
Top lips have NARS Roman Holiday applied only. I recommend that you apply a lip balm underneath as this matte pencil shows up every imperfection on the lips. Middle lips have Chanel Glossmer in 104 Astral applied over the lip pencil.
The next lip gloss i tried was the limited edition YSL Arctic Blue Golden Gloss (55). This is another gloss which has fast become a favourite of mine, shame it was limited edition.
The Arctic Blue has gold and blue shimmer in it and adds a slightly cool tone to the lip pencil underneath. I personally thought the Chanel Glossmer done Roman Holiday the greatest amount of justice and this is the way i will be wearing it in the future. Roman Holiday with YSL Arctic Blue is pictured right. What do you think?
Will i repurchase?
Even though i thought the lip pencil alone was ok, i cannot wear this without applying a lip gloss over it, unlike the other matte lipsticks i own. I did; however, love the colour combination with the Chanel Glossmer so i am still very happy.
I would probably go with the Dolce Vita shade for my next purchase because it has much more colour to it and the shade in the lipstick suits me very well, review here. The Velvet Matte Lip Pencils cost £17.50 for 2.4gm.
There you have it. Any questions! Then please feel free to ask. Have a great week everyone and see you soon. 😉
