Top of The Taupes………………… When All Else Fails !!

Hi Everyone,

I have been sorting through my makeup collection and have come across a number of eyeshadows that share one thing in common. They are all different taupe shades. I hadn’t realised i owned so many. I see an eyeshadow and buy it because i love it at the time and have obviously had a love of taupes for a while.

Top of The Taupes

Taupe is a great staple shade because it goes with most other colours and all eye shades, skin tones and can be worn for day time and work very easily. A good all rounder really. It can be used as a transition shade or as the main lid colour, is so versatile and i’m not surprised that there are so many shades out there to choose from.

I thought i would share the great taupe eyeshadows and pencil i own and how i like to use them on my eyes. Most are still available to buy now as well.

Chanel Illusion D’Ombre, 83 Illusoire.Chanel Illusion D'Ombre Illusoire

An all time favourite and one of the most popular shades in this Chanel range. I wear this one constantly because it makes blue eyes pop and the multi-micro glitter is beautiful. Easy to blend, incredibly wearable for every eye colour. I wear this one in my socket with the Illusion D’Ombre Abstraction (salmon pink) and also with Emerveille, (a lovely peach shade) over the lid. Most of these shades have been designed to work well with the others and they blend out very easily with the mousse-creamy formula.

NARS Single Eyeshadow, Lhasa.

NARS Single Eyeshadow LhasaA cult product from NARS. This is very similar to Illusiore from Chanel but without glitter. It has a nice satin finish to it and is easy to build up. I wear this one in the socket with Chanel’s limited edition single soft touh eyeshadow Complice, (peachy/pink satin) across the lid. It makes a lovely day wear look. No fall out either.

Chanel Soft Touch Single Eyeshadow, 90 Fauve. (Disc.)

Another classic. This is grey/brown and a hint of purple with plenty of micro glitter. A gorgeous rich warm shade to wear across the lid. It may be discontinued now but Gri Gri is a similar replacement.Chanel Soft Touch Single Eyeshadow Fauve

I wear this one with a rich purple in the socket from Lancome called, Ombre Magnetique in,02  Cherry. I also wear it with Chanel Soft Touch Single Eyeshadow in Magic Night, the perfect contrast.

NARS Single Eyeshadow Ashes to Ashes.

Described as a taupe brNARS Single Eyeshadow Ashes to Ashesown but i think its probably more of a pale brown really. It would be a great base colour for brown or hazel eyes. It is a warm  brown but i prefer the Moon River eyeshadow stylo by Chanel to this one. I still want to try it out with other shades though because i do like NARS single eyeshadows and i’m not going to give up on it just yet.

Chanel Duo Eyeshadows, 40 Misty-Soft.

I have had a lot of wear out of these eyeshadows. They have a very creamy formula. The first shade is a pale taupe lilac with silver micro glitter, the other is a deeper purple taupe shade to apply in the socket. There is no fuss or fall out with them and are ideal for travelling with and suit blue and green eyes. Easy to blend too.Chanel Eyeshadow Duo Misty Soft

Chanel Stylo Yeux Long Lasting Waterproof Eyeliner, 84 Taupe.

Chanel Stylo Yeux Taupe

A must have in anyone’s collection. This will go with every eye colour and stays put once applied.  I have read some reviews about it dragging across the eye but all you have to do is place the tip on the back of your hand for a few seconds and the warmth will soften the stylo, making it a breeze to apply. Lovely! Doesn’t smudge or disappear during the day. I wear this with all my brown shades of eyeshadows. Rose platine is another firm favourite of mine in a taupe/pink shade and sadly, discontinued; however, full review and more swatches are here.

Chanel Soft Touch Single Eyeshadow, 99 Hasard.

I purchased Hasard because Gri Gri reminded me a lot of Fauve, (see above) and both shades were released together to compliment each other.

Hasard is a matte lilac taupe which is nice to apply with a little fall out. It isn’t as pigmented as i would have liked and is quite powdery in the pan but i still like using this shade as a transition colour.
