I am 5 …………. 5 Years of Honest Beauty Blogging!

Hi Everyone,

OMG! Is my blog really 5 years old now? Well, i got a notification off WordPress to say it is.Have things changed

Not that much. I still love Chanel, although i think its not quite got the hold on me as much as maybe 6-8 years ago or; i have so much makeup now that i could create any look i ever wanted without really buying anything new.

Do i still enjoy writing?

If i’m really honest, i don’t have a lot of time and i have a ton of products i still haven’t written about yet so, maybe its waning a tad. I do try to keep up and now i’m back from my hols, i’ll have another go at it.

Thing is, i never thought my blog would still be going after all this time so i’m really pleased it still is.

Have i learned anything this year?

Have I ?!! I think the ‘paid’ bloggers are becoming more transparent. Especially when they keep posting about the same products as each other at the same time. Hmmm !!

I am a bit miffed that there are very few bloggers in my age group. 40-50. The stats prove that this is the age group that spends the most on beauty products.

I love Ann-Marie’s blog, check it out. Ann-Marie writes some great posts which i can relate to.

I have little interest in high street beauty at all or anyone talking about anti-ageing products when they are many years away from needing them.

I only buy what i want to and i tend to watch vids from the little youtubers and read blogs from little bloggers like myself more and more because i believe in them. Not fairy lights in the background and fancy camera work from a whole production team.

What does the future hold?

More of the same. It is what it is. I don’t get paid to write posts and i don’t get sent any freebies. Yes, it would be nice; however, i would only write what i wanted to write. I need to keep my integrity so that you get thorough and honest reviews from me.

That is very important to me and in the five years, i have never been dishonest about any product i have reviewed so i’m chuffed with that and why should that change ?!

With that all said, thanks once again for popping by, following me and commenting and i do really appreciate it. It shows that i’m not writing to an empty space and people do appreciate me and thats what keeps me writing.

P.S Some pics from my amazing holiday touring the west coast of USA. Planning my next adventure!

Thanks guys and here’s to the next five years hopefully. 😉

  1. Happy 5th Birthday Mandy!
I love your blog because you are honest ! So many just want to flog the free products they get and they think we do not know! Huh!
Looks like you had a wonderful trip Mandy.
I will be here reading your blog and commenting when I can .
Oh those fairylights ……. you forgot the candle in the background!!! LOL

    • Ha ha yes the candle gently glowing in the background. So true. Thanks so much for you lovely comments and reading my blog as well. I try to keep the wording to a minimum but it’s quite difficult sometimes when you’re trying to give details xxx

  2. Mandy ….. write away! Love to read all your thoughts on makeup etc!!!

  3. WOW! CONGRATULATIONS! This is awesome!

  4. Thanks for the shout out Mandy. The holiday looked like everything you hoped it would be, glad you enjoyed it.

You’re right about young ones pushing anti-ageing products. I was asked to be a brand ambassador for a skincare product for older women. Then I was rejected because I needed 10k followers to be eligible to review it! They’re not going to shift an anti-ageing serum with fresh faced 20 year olds pushing it.

Like you, blogging isn’t my life. I don’t buy products specifically for the blog (although I was shocked by how many do, then again, if it’s to support their main source of income, fair enough). I buy them for me and then if they’re good or bad, I write about them.

Blogging has changed so much, it’s all about the numbers now.

I rely on your blog for honest reviews, especially as you feature high end brands, I’ve wasted too much money on expensive products, I need to know what I’m getting is worth it! X

    • Thanks Ann-Marie. I only bother with the small bloggers now. I noticed recently, that 3 very high profile bloggers/YouTube who work for the same company, all reviewed products from the same brand in quick succession.
The brands featured were crying out for publicity and these reviewers were all saying pretty much the same things. It’s so annoying because they are not genuine at all.

    • I guess I just can’t be bothered with any of them anymore.
I have just recently left a job that was customer facing and am now going back to product development technology. This means I am going to have to tone the makeup down quite a bit and therefore, I probably won’t buy as much anymore. So there will be even less posts from me in 2018.

  5. I think that might be Gleam or Glean, all the big hitters are with them. They all know each other & it feels a bit cliquey. I think the ones who have built up huge followings are getting a bit cocky. One ‘guru’ I’ve admired for years is painfully PC and her followers jump on anyone who disagrees with her.

I’m sure Zoella is part of Glean, I’m waiting to see if the others leap to her defence after her crap calendar/old offensive tweets mess. I feel (a little) guilty, but I use Twitter mainly to watch celebs or bloggers argue.

I hope you don’t disappear completely Mandy, we’re a minority! I’ve gone off so many bloggers and YouTubers. It must be old age, but I can spot insincerity a mile off.

My cousin works in a sterile environment. She hated it at first, but now says it feels liberating not to wear make up (nevermind the time she saves in the morning), plus her skin is glowing.

    • Yes I will save at least 30 minutes in morning. I won’t give it up completely. Just more nude colours and no eyeshadows. No makeup looks.
I have never seen any Zoella. She looks like an irritant!
I’m talking about glossy makeup and the older you tubers who as u say, you Daren’t question for fear of retribution lol. I will pop up as much as I can do and will try to keep it interesting and thanks for the vote of confidence, it means so much. I love your blog to for the very same reasons

  6. I know exactly who you mean. You can’t call them out because of their fans, so some of them are running riot.

There was a fashion blogger who was ‘outed’ on twitter by some very smug bloggers a few years ago because she bought most of her followers – 30k at least. Obviously, that’s deceitful, but my real problem is that the ones who called her out said they felt cheated because they followed her, spoke to her at events, socialised with her and introduced her to their contacts. They seemed to not realise the irony of the situation, that they only did this BECAUSE she had a high follower count.

Like you, I’m happy in my own little niche and I’m delighted people read it, especially considering how many fabulous blogs are out there.
