Dior and Chanel Lips & Nails…………………..Magenta Makes Me Feel Sassy!

•July 2, 2017 • 6 Comments

Hi Everyone,

I had a little Birthday bash with some of the girls from work a few weeks ago and i needed to buy a couple of new items to go with my new dress. (Any excuse really)!

The dress is navy with a floral pattern that includes the colours of magenta and various shades of blue. I love it!

I decided to make everything magenta to add a contrast to the dress and blue shoes i also bought; my clutch included. My lip colour and nail polish has to be magenta too.

Dior Lacquer Stick Lipstick, 882 Sassy.

When i first saw this on the counter, i wasn’t overawed with the shade. I do love the formula of the Lacquer sticks. They are seriously creamy and super pigmented. A dream of a lipstick.

I already own L.A.Pink, which is a dusky pink mauve shade. I’ve worn it so much, i am nearly half way through the tube aready.

When the SA from Dior tried Sassy out on me, it made my blue eyes stand right out. It is a very wearable pink with both warmth and a touch of blueness to it as well. It is perfect for the clutch and nail colour i also bought.

The lacquer sticks do remain on the lips for many hours, so very little touch ups are required. I have other shades in mind for my next purchase and Club is a beautiful shade too.

Picture above left comparisons to Sassy; Dior Lacquer Stick 882 Sassy, a neutral toned magenta. Dior Addict 976 Be Dior, a warm pink fuchsia; Chanel Rouge Allure 93 ExaltΓ©e, a very cool toned fuchsia pink and finally; Chanel Rouge Allure Ink 150 Luxuriant is a warm berry pink shade.

Chanel Le Vernis Nail Colour, 643 DΓ©sirio.

I believe this one is still made using the older formula and not the new gel one. The shade was the only one perfect to match both my clutch and lipstick choices so i went with it.

There’s not a lot i can say about this other than it is a typical Chanel nail polish. They always come in stunning and very unique shades and i don’t really care what anyone says, they are still the best in shade and application even though the older formula does chip a bit.

This is a gorgeous, opaque magenta with a good amount of shine to it.

It lasts much longer with the Dior Gel Coat on top too. I’m not worrying too much about it πŸ˜‰

That’s all my recent purchases for now.Β

Take care and i will see you all soon. Β πŸ˜‰

Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Luminous Colour Compact………….Medium.

•June 4, 2017 • 6 Comments

Hi Everyone,

As anyone who reads my blog will know, i am a big fan of Chanel beauty, especially Les Beiges.

I have a couple of different Les Beiges powders and they are fantastic for giving the skin that fresh healthy glow wth a touch of subtle colour.

The Original Les Beiges Healthy Glow Powder.

Les Beiges Healthy Glow powders perfect and blur to give a beautiful everyday finish; however, the original ones do this with a matte finish. They don’t add a ton of colour to the face rather, a more natural ‘lit from within’ finish with a hint of colour.

Chanel are never about over statements with their makeup, more the subtle approach to make an impact with a natural look. Makeup afterall, is there to enhance what you already have and not to give the ‘Drag Queen/Instagram’ effect.

The new Les Beiges Luminous Colour powders for Summer 2017, offer a luminous finish, as the title suggests.

The New Les Beiges.

I picked up medium, (proving to be a very popular shade) and i also want the medium deep for a more bronzed effect.

The compact is still in the same beige/off white retro packaging and comes with a white, super soft half moon brush to use on the go. These little brushes are great for travel.

The fragrance is the typical Chanel aroma which disappears on contact with the skin and; the powder itself is notably different in the compact to the original because, it comes with a raised stripe effect pattern and has subtle golden shimmers to it.

Another difference to the powder is, it’s quite loosely pressed this time in comparison to the original powder which means, one little dab with a fluffy brush picks up quite a lot of product.

The swatches (below) show a warm golden toned powder that will suit fair skin tones without looking like a bronzing powder. It will give you a subtle colour change. Medium deep and deep should be suitable if you want a bronzed effect.

The Result.

The very fine powder gives a gorgeous illuminating silky golden finish to the skin. Absolutely stunning!

Even though the powder shows golden shimmers in the compact, this does not transfer to chunks on the skin rather, a more luminous blurred effect.

I never found any highlighting of any pores or fine lines at all. I did use it on the high points of my face to lift and highlight and it also gave my skin a beautiful warm golden tone.Lovely! Chanel have really excelled here.

With regards to longevity, I couldn’t have picked a better couple of days to wear it. Both days were very hot in work and i did eight and a half hour shifts. This wore really well without fading.

The only downside i have is, it doesn’t have an SPF in this new powder, It is only a slight distraction for me though.

Final Verdict.

I want another and i plan to buy one. I will go for medium deep to give a more deeper tone to my skin; however, this is still beautiful and gives a lovely warm glow to the skin. Great for fair skin and they are permanent.

If you love the original Les Beiges, you will probably adore these even more. This is a great, long wearing highlighting colour powder.

Chanel have outdone themselves here and are about to knock it out the park again with the fantastic new single eyeshadows too.

I’m guessing that they don’t need Peter Philips after all.

Have you tried the new Les Beiges Illuminating Colour Compacts yet?

Right; with the healthy glow luminous powder in medium over base Chanel CC cream.

Take care and i will see you all soon. πŸ™‚

Dior Pump N’ Volume Mascara Review………………..Gone Is The Extasy!!

•May 22, 2017 • 6 Comments

Hi Everyone,

If you haven’t been living under a rock for the past couple of months, you may have noticed that Dior and Peter Philips have just released their latest creation; a mascara you can pump in it’s rubberized tube to add volume to the lashes.

It currently has a heavy campaign over all social media to highlight this new concept in mascara application.

Obviously, being a massive fan of the Dior mascara’s for their quality and quantity of product, for their price, i had to buy myself one.

I am both elated and exceptionally disappointed all at the same time!!

The New Mascara.

It now comes in a rubberized tube which you can squeeze at the base to add more mascara to the wand, to create fat lashes.

It has a big brush head with soft plastic bristles which are quite small to capture every lash. (I do prefer the brush head of the Extase mascara to the plastic one on the new version. See further below right).

The formula of the mascara itself is a typical thickish formula, not unlike the Extase mascara and is supposed to give dramatic full volume false lash effect lashes without clumping.

The Results.

I loved the first application. It applied quite easily with no fuss. It gives nice volume, lengthening and curling to my lashes. Not unlike Dior Extase in fact and if you stop there, its fab.

Second coat and things start to get tricky. It becomes quite clumpy and even though i brushed through my lashes with an eye lash wand, it still gave my lashes a thick clumpy looking finish. Not the look i wanted to achieve really.

The one great thing about it is, it doesn’t smudge at all. That is really a plus point for me and i had it on while sobbing, when the Dior SA told me that Extase was being discontinued, lol.

Above; One coat of Dior Pump N’ Volume on one eye and; One coat of Dior Extase Mascara on the other eye. Which do you think is which?

Above and below; i have both the Dior Pump N’ Volume on one eye and Dior Extase on the other eye. Can you tell which is which?

Above; Two coats of Dior Pump N’ Volume on one eye and; Two coats of Dior Extase Mascara on the other eye. Which is which??

The Tear Jerker!

It had to come!!!! Dior have decided to discontinue my beloved Extase mascara in place of this new one. I am gutted!

I have used Extase mascara for years and love it. It also came with a fabulous 10ml of product and here’s the other knife twister. The new one has only 6ml of product and is a pound more expensive. (Something the ‘rewarded’ bloggers/Youtubers failed to point out when reviewing this mascara).

If you are one of the people who buy your mascara every month, this will not phase you one bit. I buy my mascaras roughly every 3-4 months. Well, i guess i won’t be anymore!!! Ka-ching Dior!

The Final Verdict.

Besides the new mascara being a little ‘gimmicky’, (i just think the pumping thing is completely unnecessary) and 4ml’s lower in volume and more expensive; it clumps quite badly on the second coat.

It does however; give a very false lash effect, as it states and if that’s what you want to achieve; great! This is your mascara.

Me! I want really nice long, fuller, natural looking eyelashes.

Pictured right; wearing Dior Pump N’ Volume and Dior Lacquer Stick lipstick, 882 Sassy.

I just can’t fall in love with Pump N’ Volume at all. What a shame. I will use it up and then look for an Extase replacement or; just buy up some on websites that still have it left in stock. If you loved Dior Extase, you might want to do the same. If you thought Extase was clumpy, don’t even bother with Pump N’ Volume. On the plus side; It’s a great mascara for a one coat application and doesn’t smudge at all.

Did you work out which mascara was on the left eye and which was on the right one??? Which do you prefer? I know which one i like best! Answers in comments please.

Take care and i will see you all soon. πŸ˜‰

Five of My Sunday Best…………..Beauty and Rambling In The Lakes!

•April 9, 2017 • 6 Comments

Hi Everyone,

Recently, I had a few days in Keswick in the Lake District. I was going to do a ‘whats in my travel makeup bag’ post; however, i didn’t take a lot in the way of beauty products. In fact, it was mostly samples, BB cream with a blusher and lip balm.

This made me think that i would do a post about the five products i loved when i was up there and any i have been loving since.

The hotels from Hope Park.Β

I also did a tiny ‘mountain’ walk to Latrigg, (Keswick’s very own hill). I did want to do Catbells but the snow was out in force and the Launch, (Keswick’s boat service to the fells and other areas around Derwentwater) was off for a couple of days too.

Above, the view from my bedroom. The hills are alive……….

Here are my five favourites for March and photos of my adventure in the lakes.

The Snow capped summit of Catbells.

Berghaus Explorer Active Gore Tex Boot.

I have to give these a mention straight away. I didn’t have any walking shoes at all and for many years, i would wear Doc Martin’s if i did any walks. (They were fantastic)!

I decided to buy a pair of proper walking boots and because they were new, i was dreading the blisters that would ensue. I bought a ton of plasters for my trip and didn’t use a single one.

Oh no, my Chanel nail polish just chipped!

These fantastic boots not only come in half sizes, they hug the foot beautifully, don’t rub, are lightweight and i love the colour too. Really worth the money. They are also waterproof and even though i got them completely covered in mud, they cleaned up like new again. A HUGE favourite and worth splashing out the cash for.

Right; half way up Latrigg and i finally found a sign post.

Dior Lip Glow, Colour Reviver Balm, 006 Berry.

You could argue that there are many great lip balms out there and you would be right. The thing is, most of them come in a pot with a screw on lid. By Terry, Nuxe to mention a couple. This is impractical when you’re half way up a mountain.

The Dior lip balm is a lovely soft pink on the lips and works with your own lip pH. It stopped my lips from chapping and gave them a nice colour, without it looking like i had a heavy lipstick on. Fits easily in your pocket and actually would be even more practical if it came in the Guerlain Rouge Automatique casing, which has no lid at all.

The North Face Jester Day Sack.

I bought this back pack because i will also need it for my USA adventure later this year.

It’s perfect because, even though its only 26L, it’s ideal for the cabin of a plane and overhead in the motor coach. I can also pack it into my suitcase on my trip to space save and; it was ideal to climb a mountain with because of it’s size.

Skiddaw from Greta River. Loving the contrast with the dark trees.

It’s very lightweight and comfortable and has two main pockets and many inner pockets to keep everything organised. A great bag to own.

Now there’s a bench you could sit and reflect on.

Guerlain Terracotta Joli Teint Natural Healthy Glow Powder Duo, 00 Light Blondes.

One Product i have been revisiting is the Guerlain healthy glow powder.

I love the Chanel Les Beiges as anyone knows who reads my posts; however, a couple of years ago, Guerlain released their version of it.

I do like it more as a setting powder because it doesn’t really work for me as a healthy glow one. It doesn’t blur fine lines as the Chanel one does.

It does work exceptionally well as a setting powder for BB creams and other oilier foundations and it adds a touch of colour which i suppose, does give a more healthier complexion, just not a glowing one.

The boat landing near Friars Crag and ‘Theatre by The Lake’.

Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Eye and Face Serum Capsules.Β

Another ideal way to have moisturiser and eye cream on hand when on a trip is these handy little capsules or caplets.

You use one of each for both eyes and face and it gives great skin. I love using them and they are non-greasy and leave the skin lovely and soft.

Latrigg, looks tiny doesn’t it? A really nice walk with great views over Keswick and the fells, with it’s two mile ascent. Β  Β

They are much better than having to lug around jars of creams everywhere when you’re on a trip.

Panoramic shot from Friars Crag. Below left; dessert and hot choc in one hit after a hearty walk. Yum! Below right; ‘No Entry’, well! Try stopping me.Β

There it is. Five of my Sunday best for March 2017. Hope you enjoyed the photos too. I enjoyed my trip.

Take care and i will see you all soon. πŸ˜‰

Dior Haul………….Addict Lacquer Stick, 570 L.A. Pink, Extase Mascara & Star Foundation.

•March 26, 2017 • 2 Comments

Hi Everyone,

Recently, i bought one new and re-purchased two all time favourites from Dior. The two i re-purchased have been reviewed and spoken about many times on my blog, so i will just do a quick re-cap on them.

I will do a full review on the newly released Lacquer stick instead.

Dior Extase Lash Plumping Mascara.

Above left, eye without mascara and right; with one coat of Dior Extase. Below right; Dior Extase wand. Β

I constantly re-purchase this one because full fat and long lashes are what i want and what it gives.

It’s never let me down yet and it never clumps up my lashes either. It’s a dream for me.

Dior are exceptionally generous with their mascaras and offer a full 10ml of product for the same price as other high end mascaras that only offer 6.5ml. They also take much longer than some to dry out in the tube.

It’s a fantastic mascara. I was about to add a link to the full review and i haven’t done one. I have mentioned it a lot in various other post so, here are the photos and they; hopefully, will speak for this mascara.

Dior Star Foundation.

When i first bought this foundation, it was in the middle of a quite hot and sticky summer. It melted off my face a bit therefore; i didn’t give it a favourable review. I had some of the sample left and used it in the cooler winter months and my opinion completely changed.

It is a beautiful light to medium coverage foundation that leaves a matte yet, luminous finish to the skin. Covers blemishes and redness fairly easily and can be built up. I only need to touch up once during an eight hour work day and it doesn’t have any strong fragrance either.

Dior Addict Lacquer Stick, 570 L.A. Pink.

I previously tried the four other shades of the samples provided. Reviewed here. They were all lovely and some worked better on my skin tone than others. As soon as i saw this one i was smitten.

The lipstick is packaged in a black case in typical Dior design with a neon pink stripe running down one side. No magnet closing on this one!!

I don’t buy into packaging and the great thing about Dior is, they don’t make a massive deal about it either hence; no ridiculous pricing for a great quality lipstick. They keep the packaging elegant and simple and yet; still striking.

The Dior SA offered to try out a few shades on me as well as this one. I also tried Dark Flower and Club.

Club is a beautifulΒ brown/orange shade of red and would be great for evening wear because it is fairly dark on my lip. Dark Flower was a touch too deep for my skin tone; L.A. Pink just worked out lovely and even made my eyes look a touch bluer.

Far right above; left side is L.A.Pink and right; Escapade (Desert Rose). L.A. Pink is a touch rosier pink in shade and Escapade is moreof a beige tone. Β

The lacquer lipstick.

I love this deeper dusky pink shade. It is quite warm and a touch similar to Chanel Mademoiselle and; Desert Rose (disc.), a warm nude pink.

Great for every day wear however, still packs a punch with its glossiness and pigmentation. I will be re-purchasing this one time and time again.

It wears for 6 hours and only loses some colour from the centre of the lips after eating and drinking. I seriously think you cannot go wrong with these new lacquer sticks. I prefer them to liquid lipsticks (which are messy) and yet; the lacquer stick still gives that shine like one when applied.

There you have it. My latest haul from Dior.

Take care and i will see you all soon. πŸ˜‰

Dior Airflash Spray Foundation, 200……………………Airbrushed Perfection.

•March 12, 2017 • 4 Comments

Hi Everyone,

I have just finished my Dior Star foundation after many months and already bought a new one. It is probably one of the nicest luminous matte foundations i use during the Autumn/Winter months.

Spring is here and summer is not far behind. I find this foundation isn’t long wearing for me during the summer months because my skin is much oilier.

This means i have been looking for a new foundation to try.

I have read a few reviews about the Dior Airflash foundation. Even Wayne Goss has given it a positive mention !!! He is very right in saying it gives a beautiful airbrushed finish to the skin. I have to agree with him there.

Being low on foundations, this has given me the chance to try it out.

Initial Thoughts.

The foundation is housed in a tin can with a very generous 70ml of product. (Whether this weight includes the air in the can is yet to be determined).

It has no scent at all. I personally don’t mind the Dior and Chanel fragrance added to their products; however, i understand those that don’t like it.

Has no alcohol, parabens and no SPF.

It costs roughly the same as most other high end foundations.

It comes with instructions on how to apply the product.

My favourite Airflash Application method.Β

Dior recommend that you shake up the can for approx. 15 seconds and then hold the can 20cm away from the face, spray over the entire face. Then allow to set.

I don’t ever intend to use it that way. This will lead to foundation all over your hair and clothing/furniture. Also wastage of product.

The best way i have found to apply it is; with the nozzle of the can very close to the bristles of a full coverage foundation brush, spray a small amount over the surface of the brush and then apply using a circular motion from the centre of the face outwards.

I have to spray my brush 3 times to give a very nice coverage to my face and underneath my chin. (Much less than traditional liquid foundation)

The foundation sets down very quickly and gives the skin a luminous matte finish. I didn’t need to use a setting powder and even though the foundation sets, it didn’t highlight any lines on my face. MAGICAL! (I swear, i’m not making that up).

The application is very quick, which is great when you have limited time getting ready for work and my redness was completely covered. I still used concealer under the eyes and also on larger blemishes.

Above left without foundation and right; with. I also have mascara on and Dior Addict Lacquer Stick, 550 Tease on lips in right picture (Nothing else). My skin has been good this month so, it is difficult to see how good this foundation covers; however, it has worked well with the redness around my nose. Β

Final Thoughts.Β

I remember this foundation being introduced approx. 9 years ago and i’s still going strong. This is how successful it obviously is and; the reason why i’m going all out in saying this is one of the best foundations i have used yet.

The ease of application and setting time is excellent and no fixing powder is needed at all.

If you want a super light application, the best way is to apply straight from the can to your face. It will set instantly; however, you will need to keep your hair and clothing protected while doing this.

The foundation can be built up to a very heavy coverage if required. I don’t like to see foundation at all on my skin or sitting in my pores. This ticks that box and yet; gives fantastic, illuminous airbrushed cover. (Be careful if you have dry patches on the skin because it sticks to them. Exfoliate if you need to).

I would say one negative is, Dior have a limited amount of shades available, so not all shades may suit everyone. 200/beige claire is my exact skinΒ match because i have fairly pale, yellow toned skin. I would have preferred a slightly warmer shade but there isn’t one so, i just go heavier with the bronzing p0wder instead.

Time will tell how long this foundation will last with every day use, (this is my first purchase). I usually get up to 3 months from the Star foundation. I will report back on this.

Have you ever tried this foundation? Let me know your thoughts. Take care and i will see you all soon πŸ˜‰

Dior Addict Lacquer Sticks Spring/Summer 2017………….. 924; 877; 684; 550 Swatches.

•March 5, 2017 • 9 Comments

Hi Everyone,

I’m so excited to share the new Dior Lacquer Lipstick swatches for Spring/Summer 2017 with you.Β  IΒ have been waiting for these for what seems like forever.

I do love Dior Addict lipsticks and started using them a few years ago when Kate Moss headed up the media campaign; in fact, i bought the very lipstick she wore in the tv advert. (Diorkiss) A beautiful pink . Since then, i have tried various formulas by Dior in the Addict range and loved them all. This new range is no exception, i just love all the shades and will have trouble picking which ones to buy.

The New Dior Addict.

The new range consists of 4 categories of lipstick. The formula is said to be a liquid shine that works with your own lip. Weightless and non-sticky and wears for 6 hours. The complete shade range below is for the UK/Europe Market.

Peter Philips, Creative and Image Director for Dior Makeup, creates the 4 colour trends of the season inspired by the most emblematic L.A. spots and bathed in the light of the West Coast:samples-of-dior-addict-lacquer-sticks
PASTEL Whites infused with pink, lavender, coral and peach pigments evoke a Californian postcard from the fifties.
NEON A pop spectrum that draws its energy from the heart of the City of Angels.
CLASSIC Red Carpet reds and pinks with Hollywood glamour.
WILD Neo-nudes and browns that flirt with grunge.

A base almost twice as sheer as a classic lipstick** for colour with unprecedented shine. A palette of 18 colour creations, ranging from the highly experimental to the most timeless, all with surprising intensity and vibrancy, including 4 emblematic it-shades: Turn Me Dior, Diabolo, Sauvage, Tease.

Tease, Diabolo, Turn Me Dior and Sauvage.

The above four shades are currently available as a sample card from Dior and i am swatching them for this post and giving my general thoughts as per usual. This includes one lipstick from each category.

550 Tease. (Pastel)

A gorgeous beige/pink which will be great for a nude day look. Again, i own nothing like this shade in my collection. It is a nice wearable day wear shade that is going to suit most with paler skin tones. Great with a smokey eye.

It has a candy scent to this one and is quite soft and easy to apply out of the pot. I do like this but it isn’t unique enough for me to buy it. Lovely and shiny though.

684 Diabolo. (Neon).

In the neon range, this one is a fuchsia based pink; very shocking pink, infact. I have a few shades of lipstick similar to this, (Chanel Rouge Allure, Exalte; DiorAddict, Be Dior; NARS Pure Matte Lipstick, Carthage).

I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with Fuchsia shades because i think it looks lovely when i first apply it with a nude eye. Later on in the day, i feel it looks a bit messy and tarty on my lips. Β I do love the shock/neon factor of Diabolo though.

I wore this all day in work and it wore very well and didn’t go patchy in places at all. Which happens a lot with this type of shade on my lips after a few hours wear.

877 Turn Me Dior. (Classic)

Worn by Jennifer Lawrence in the media campaigns, this is a classic blue-based red shade or is it? Very cool toned and certainly classic.

dior-addict-lacquer-stick-swatch-877-turn-me-diorWhen i applied it, i thought it wore as a pink/red on my lip and yet; when i photographed it, it was a blue/red in the photo’s. I still think it wears pink/red on me and it’s a gorgeous very wearable shade. I think i will buy this shade in full size. It also is very glossy on the lip and comfortable.

This reminds me of the Chanel Rouge Allure Gloss lipstick, 18 SΓ©duction. A beautiful wearable pink/red.

24 Sauvage. (Wild)

A deep chocolate shade and nothing at all like any other shade i own in my whole collection of 65+ lipsticks. (I know, shameful!)

The thindior-addict-lacquer-stick-sample-palette-2017g is, this is beautiful and very glossy on the lip. It had the hardest texture in the pot but once applied became very glossy and soft wearing quickly.

This shade would be fantastic on very pale, porcelain or darker skin tones. It’s too dark on me!

Final Thoughts.

I’m smitten with the Dior Addict lipsticks and have never had a single complaint about any shade or the consistency of the product. The packaging of Dior lipsticks is beautiful and; who can’t resist pulling one of them out of your purse to show off!

The consistency of the lacquer sticks is very soft and glides easily over the lip. I noticed the lipstick clung to some of the dry bits on my lipswatches-of-all-four-shades-of-dior-addict-lacquer-sticks, so exfoliate lip first before applying. It wasn’t a big deal anyway. The camera picked it up; however, the naked eye doesn’t.

I wore the neon pink 684 Diabolo for work to see if 6 hours wear is really true. Well, yes actually it is.

The lips become mirror-like and very glossy (see swatches above right and above).Β

It does eventually set and matte down slightly after 3 hours wear so, you can either, re-apply lipstick to get the gloss back or; you could add a touch of lip balm and this will bring the moisture and gloss back to.

I atebeautiful-fluffy my lunch, had coffee and a glass of water and it stayed put with a bit of minor fade in the very centre of my lips to which; i added a touch more lipstick to correct.

me-with-dior-airflash-foundation-200-and-dior-addict-lacquer-stick-550-teaseThis is one seriously long lasting lipstick; however, the gloss will only last a couple of hours. Minor touch ups means, a lipstick which is going to last far longer in the tube than the balm-like ones with a great amount of slip, which you constantly need to re-apply.

I think this is the best Addict lipstick reinvention yet and the black packaging with neon pink strip is a very nice touch. Good luck trying to walk past the counter without wanting at least one.

Take care and i will see you all soon πŸ˜‰
